Day 03 → Your favourite television programme, Day 04 → Your favourite book [Dec. 14th, 2009|10:13 am]

God, answering these is more difficult than the film one.

AIGHT. My absolute favourite TV show that I can watch back to back over and over again is The West Wing. Its brilliantly written (HEY AARON SORKIN!) and has the greatest characters (and actors- Martin SHeen, Alison Janney, Rob Lowe, I Heart you). This might sound stupid, but it also really contributed to my knowledge and interest in politics when I was younger. Also the fact that Matt Santos, who was inspired by Barack Obama, went on to win the presidency in the show before Obama had even announced he was running is pretty ace.

and of course, Josh & Donna. I shipped them before I even knew who Jim & Pam were. Fact- Aaron Sorkin rewrote the pilot because of their chemistry.

Close seconds for favourite TV show are Glee (OBVS), SNL, The Office and House.

Favourite book-

This is TOO hard, and I need to get my junk together to head for the airport soon.

CLEARLY I love the Harry Potter series but I'm gonna disregard that for now.

SO here's five six other books I ♥ ♥ ♥

- The Great Gatsby
- The Picture of Dorian Gray (most attractive fictional character ever, y/y?)
- a tie between The Little Friend and The Secret History by Donna Tart
- The Electric Acid Kool Aid Test by Tom Wolfe (read it after reading On The Road - also an awesome book- its all about the Merry Pranksters and the LSD movement and is insanely interesting.)
- The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. This was published a couple years ago...first book in a long time (ASIDE from Harry Potter) to make me want to cry. The whole premise of the story (narrated by Death) is really cool as well.

So, I spent the whole day in the Shoreditch/Bethnal Green area at the Bust Craftacular and the Mangle Craft Sale, subsisting on a banana and a biscuit for breakfast - needn't worry about me being malnourished, (LOLZASIF) I've just had laduree macarons and chicken tikka, in that order. i feel rather ill now.

Anyway, I (kinda) met Gemma Correl, at her stall at the Craftacular. Only in that she sold me stuff, really, but she was really nice- i think she could tell that I'm skint, so she gave me the I Love Dogs badge set I was buying (along with a print and tea towel for mother's stocking) for free. Nice one, lady.

I do my mum's stocking every year, which is basically a whole bunch of little Christmas presents for her. Trouble is, her birthday is ten days before Xmas so I'm always super stressed trying to get her all these things, and I would never want to give sub-par gifts. On top of that, I always end up finding stuff that I want for myself at these things. Luckily, I think I've got her pretty much sorted now, and I can totes do the rest of my shopping once I fly back to the states.

Anyway, it was Mangle that really made my day, BECAUSE ROB RYAN WUZ THERE. TRUE STORY. Plus, he was selling everything there FOR WAY CHEAP. I ended up getting mum a limited ed Xmas Print for her birthday that he'd made the night before AND SIGNED FOR ME. and I bought her some tiles (£5 down from around £30, hollaaa) for her stocking. Anyway, I was really a bit fangirly and he was superlovely and we ended up chatting for a bit coz he saw my Prick Your Fingers tote from the craftacular

these are a couple of the tiles I got, but in different colourways:

oh, and I briefly checked out the Wonderland exhibit at the Museum of Childhood. Small, but lovely all the same, and more so because its free.

Day 02 → Your favourite film [Dec. 12th, 2009|10:46 am]

jeez, this is HARD.

I think my favourite film of all time (i feel like Kanye typing that, OF ALL TIME! ONE OF THE BEST VIDEOS OF ALL TIME!) is probably Jurassic Park. I was OBSESSED with dinosaurs as a kid. I'm not quite the know-it-all I was, but I still love 'em. Plus, you really can't go wrong with a film that stars Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, Richard Attenborough and Samuel L. Jackson. I also ADORE the book and live in hope that they'll release a fourth film.

HOWEVER, a VERY close second, also from my childhood, is The Princess Bride-

I quote this film so much its SAD. Mandy Patinkin (Gideon from Criminal Minds!) is brilliant as Inigo Montoya, Robin Wright is stunning, Prince Westley/Cary Elwes was pretty much my first crush, Billy Crystal has a legendary cameo and the whole film is just hilarious and romantic and everything you could want really.

and lastly, because its wonderful and beautiful and it makes me cry (AND Lee Pace and Catinca Untaru are great actors)

After a bit of a think about it, my favourite song is probably Nightswimming by R.E.M. It makes me think of summer and all the loveliest times I've ever had. Because we lived in Athens, GA when I was little and my parents loved them, I would tell everyone they were my favourite band (I think they were really the only band I knew until the Spice Girls and Hanson came along), and their music just reminds me of being four and in a permanent state of undress in the Georgia heat and playing with Casco and Floyd and fingerpainting. Plus, I generally like the use of piano outside of classical music, and that it sounds just as wonderful live.
